CERAMIC SCULPTURE

2023: RECENT SERIES

A triangle attaches itself to one shape and then another shape until it no longer exists in its original form. It may have landed in this new place after sliding or breaking off from elsewhere. It has realigned its world.

2020: RECENT SERIES

Exploration of the combination of organic forms, painterly glazing and the layering of objects to create more complex structures.

Altered Geometry

Ceres Gallery, New York, NY

This body of work consists of a wide array of geometric shapes, half-shapes, hybrid shapes and wedge shapes. It has a kind of collector’s aesthetic, where complimentary and clashing forms coexist in an installation of continuous possibilities.

With its strong history of vessels and figurative work, sculpture made of clay has a will toward centrality. This project is an attempt to thwart that centrality with objects that are discursive. In pursuing this objective, the artist dismisses the importance of fine craftsmanship. She asks what will happen if the object isn’t beautiful, isn’t complete, isn’t classically composed, isn’t autonomous?

The result is an engagement with shape and surface which is not about finish but about the process of discovery.

Elemental Structures

Ceres Gallery, New York, NY

Tools, pipes, and toys are visual resources for these ceramic sculptures. Each is constructed with a set of related parts, like a set of blocks.

The resulting sculptures emphasize the physical properties of clay and glaze: weight, gravity, tension and reflectivity.
